Note: Biddle Avenue is the name of West Jefferson (or simply Jefferson) Avenue as it runs through the city of Wyandotte. Prior to 1940, Biddle had different street address numbers than those today. I have listed those pre-1940 numbers at the end of the page, taken from the Wyandotte city directories for 1907-08 and 1921. Sometimes the street is referred to as "Biddle Ave. N." (north) or "Biddle Ave. S." (south), although at this time I'm unclear of the distinction, so I have listed the "north" addresses first and then the "south" ones. The village of Ford is sometimes referenced below; it was an area "immediately north of Wyandotte and extends northerly along the Detroit River to Ecorse Village," to quote the 1907-08 directory, which estimated its population as 1660 people. Ford was annexed to Wyandotte in 1922.

Modern location of the rebuilt John Biddle home that was originally built behind present-day 2610 Biddle, according to a Wikipedia article. "In the late 1860s, a fire destroyed most of the original structure. Only a small front section remained intact and usable. A Thomas Watkins purchased the remnant and moved the home between Cedar and Spruce Streets. The house was turned gable end towards the Detroit River and rebuilt. This home presently stands at 2116 Biddle Avenue and is a link to Wyandotte’s earliest permanent residence."

According to Wikipedia article, Major John Biddle's "house stood slightly behind the present residence located at 2610 Biddle Avenue. The imposing structure faced east and the front grounds sloped gently towards the river." It was completed in 1835, lived in by the Biddle family until 1848, and then sold to Captain Eber Ward in 1854. A fire destroyed most of the house in the 1860s and what was left was moved and rebuilt at 2116 Biddle.

The January 11, 1967 Wyandotte News-Herald printed an old photo of the library with the caption: "Wyandotte's first building, totally dedicated to library services was the Andrew Carnegie Library, constructed on the present site of the old Majestic Theatre which is being demolished this month to make way for a city-owned parking lot. The Carnegie Library was dedicated May 15, 1915. It remained a library until 1940 when the site was sold for business purposes. The library was then set up at the McKinley Elementary School where it remained until Mary Ford Bacon gave the Wyandotte Board of Education her home at Biddle and Vinewood as a public library." The 1915 cornerstone of the Carnegie library is today located at the entrance of the Bacon Memorial Library at 45 Vinewood. One mystery here is that the Majestic Theatre was located at 3161/3163 Biddle in the 1940s, not at 3139.
