Owen school opened in 1958, and was named after Claud O. Owen who was manager of Owen Pharmacy at 2704 West Jefferson from around 1915 (when he came to Trenton) until his retirement at age 65 around 1955. According to an obituary, "Owen was active in the Civic life of Trenton, he served on the Trenton School Board from 1921 to 1933 filling the office of President and Treasurer as well as the office of Trustee." He lived at 221 St. Joseph until his death on December 13, 1965.
The obituary notes: "An unusual and touching tribute was paid to Mr. Owen last month when, on November 17th, youngsters of the Owen school gathered in the school's entrance hall to greet Mr. Owen for a birthday party they had planned to celebrate his 85th birthday. Nearly 800 youngsters sang "Happy Birthday," shared birthday cake, and wished him happiness. Owen, who was deeply moved by the party, commented that his life in Trenton had been most happy and that he knew of no finer community to call "home.""
